Friday is always a busy day in the Kozak household. Our daughter has speech therapy, so we enjoy a 7 am. wake up with time sitting in rush hour traffic with cranky little humans. For me, the chaos is worth it because our little one is working on speaking. For her, it throws off the routine. This Friday was a bit different because my husband needed to head back across the state for work, so I took two little ones solo. The reason this is an interesting scenario is because my husband takes time out of his busy schedule in order to accompany us to speech therapy every week, and our daughter, in all her stubborn glory, refuses to work with the speech therapist until her dad is in the room with us. So, with a little trepidation and a lot of caffeine, I headed out the door with two children in tow for the adventure that is speech therapy. I made it to the hospital, and we were already winning the day because we were on time. I walk two children, one in a car seat carrier and the other holding my hand, into the lobby of the hospital to check into one of the many kiosks along the wall. To my surprise, there is one open, and I am thrilled to proceed with mere moments left until the appointment. It was then that a message popped up on the screen that they could not find an appointment and to speak to the kind receptionist at the desk. Surely, this is a mistake. Maybe the appointment wasn’t logged, so I asked the kind lady who looked, and to my surprise, we had taken a week off of speech therapy with the next appointment being the following Friday. Now, the lady was so sweet to try hard not to laugh at my mistake, but I sure did. I often forget about appointments that I have scheduled, but I have never accidentally gone to an appointment when there wasn’t one. After laughing for a couple of seconds, I thanked her for her time, took the little ones back to the car, made the drive home, and realized that maybe it is time to update the calendar and take a nap with our beautiful babies. On the bright side, as our family has lovingly reminded me, this was an excellent test run for future appointments without my husband. Not every day goes as planned, but there can be beauty found in every day. So to all of you who forget appointments, mix up days or times, I am with you, and you are doing great.
