Hi, I’m Sharon.
I’m a Christian wife and mom, military spouse, marriage educator and coach, advocate, and Marriage & Family Therapy student.
I care deeply about helping people make practical room for healthier connection, repair, faith, and growth—especially in seasons that do not look anything like the plan.
The roots came first.
Anchored Where We Grow did not begin as a polished brand. It grew out of real family life: marriage, motherhood, military moves, faith, advocacy, cold coffee, hard conversations, and the kind of ordinary moments that teach you what actually matters.
Before this space was Anchored, it was Messy Motherhood. That chapter matters to me because growth does not require pretending the messy beginning never happened. You do not outgrow your roots. You grow from them.
Before we were Anchored, we were Messy. And honestly? We’re still a little messy.
Why Anchored Where We Grow?
I have never loved the pressure hidden inside “bloom where you’re planted.” Some seasons really are hard. Some soil is rocky. Some circumstances call for endurance; others call for change, repair, advocacy, or asking for help.
The image of an anchor, roots, sunflowers, magnolias, and even rocks gives me a more honest way to think about growth. The anchor represents Christ, faith, and what holds. The roots represent history, patterns, strengths, wounds, traditions, and everything beneath the surface. The sunflower turns toward the Light. The magnolia reminds me that beauty can be tender and temporary. The rocks remind me that hardship should be named honestly.
We don’t always choose the soil. We can know where we’re anchored.
Marriage, family, and military life
I’m married to an active-duty Navy Chief, and military life has shaped the way I think about marriage, family systems, community, transition, and resilience. Orders change. Careers bend. Friendships become long-distance. Families learn to adapt—but adaptation should never become an excuse to ignore what needs to be repaired or moved.
That is why this space holds room for both practical family life and advocacy. Sometimes we grow around the rocks. Sometimes we move them. Wisdom is learning the difference.
Education, coaching, and the work I’m building toward
I completed a Master of Arts in Teaching and am currently pursuing a graduate degree in Marriage & Family Therapy. My training also includes Gottman Method Couples Therapy Levels 1 and 2, relationship coaching, and premarital counseling education.
My long-term goal is to work as a licensed marriage and family therapist, with a particular heart for veterans, military families, couples, and families navigating demanding seasons.
For now, the education and coaching shared here are exactly that: education and coaching. They are not psychotherapy, diagnosis, or a substitute for individualized mental health treatment.
Advocacy is part of the garden too.
My military-family work has included command and spouse-support leadership, marriage and family advocacy, public speaking, media conversations, and outreach around issues that affect military families. I’ve been honored as the AFI 2025 NTAG Heartland Military Spouse of the Year and serve as a 2026 Military Marriage Week Ambassador.
I believe listening comes before advocacy: hear the families, understand the barrier, then help move what can be moved.
Some rocks aren’t ours to grow around.
Faith is the anchor.
My Christian faith is not an accessory to this work; it is the foundation beneath it. I believe God meets us in ordinary life, in repair, in questions, in obedience, in growth that no one else can see yet, and in seasons where all we can say is, “Here I am, Lord. Send me.”
Hebrews 6:19 describes hope as an anchor for the soul. That image has become central to the way I understand this space: not an anchor that keeps us from growing, but one that gives us security while we do.
Stay anchored. Tend the roots. Make room to grow.
If you are trying to love your people well, stay faithful in a hard season, understand your patterns, strengthen your marriage, navigate military life, or simply figure out what healthy growth looks like where you are standing—you are welcome here.
Anchored in faith. Growing through every season.
