Messy Motherhood

Messy Motherhood

Before we were Anchored, we were Messy. And honestly? We’re still a little messy.

Messy Motherhood was where I first started writing about ordinary family life as it actually looked: loud, funny, tender, exhausting, faithful, imperfect, and worth noticing.

Where it all began

Messy Motherhood began with a simple belief: beautiful things can grow in imperfect places.

It was never about presenting a polished version of family life. It was about seeing meaning in the middle of the laundry, the interrupted coffee, the hard conversations, the little victories, the ridiculous stories, and the moments that would have been easy to miss if I had only been looking for perfection.

Over time, the questions underneath those stories got deeper. Why do some patterns repeat? What helps marriages stay connected? What do families carry from one season into the next? What holds when everything around us changes?

Growing from the roots of Messy Motherhood

Anchored Where We Grow did not replace Messy Motherhood. It grew from it.

The stories became roots. The roots led to questions about marriage, family systems, faith, military life, connection, advocacy, and what healthy growth looks like in the soil we are actually standing in.

You don’t outgrow your roots. You grow from them.

That means there is no need to be embarrassed by where this started. Growth does not require us to erase the earlier chapters. It asks us to understand them, keep what nourishes us, untangle what does not, and make room for what comes next.

The stories stay.

Some of the most meaningful parts of Messy Motherhood were never formal lessons. They were snapshots of family life that made me stop and notice what mattered.

The Beauty I See in the Everyday

Small moments of goodness, connection, humor, tenderness, and grace that might otherwise pass unnoticed.

The Chaos of Children

The wonderfully absurd side of parenting: the quotes, adventures, surprises, and stories that remind us family life can be both exhausting and hilarious.

Those stories belong here because they are part of the roots too. Not every post needs to teach something profound. Sometimes the story itself is enough.

What changes—and what doesn’t

The name changed because the work grew.

Anchored Where We Grow makes room for marriage, family, faith, military life, education, advocacy, and the deeper questions underneath our patterns and relationships. But the heart that noticed beauty in the mess is still here.

There will still be ordinary stories. There will still be imperfect days. There will still be coffee gone cold, children doing something inexplicable, plans changing, and grace showing up somewhere in the middle.

A note about the archive

Older posts are part of the history of this space, but history does not have to stay frozen.

Some pieces will remain exactly where they are. Some may be refreshed with new context. Some may move into clearer categories. And some may be retired if they no longer serve the purpose of the site or no longer feel appropriate to keep public.

The goal is not to erase the past. It is to tend it well.

Still messy. More rooted.

Messy Motherhood taught me to notice what was growing. Anchored Where We Grow asks us to understand the roots underneath it.

Honor the roots that nourish you. Untangle the ones that don’t. Stay anchored while something new grows.
