My husband is a new chief, with that comes more responsibility. More hours, more phone calls, more time on the computer. It also gives our little ones more of a chance to see what their dad does. Our daughter has an obsession with trying on her dad’s cover and walking around in his dress shoes. She looks like a little chief and acts like one too. Our daughter already has leadership skills and a takes no prisoner’s attitude. She is strong, willful, smart, and will achieve anything she sets her mind to. Which scares me a little to be honest. As a wife of someone in the navy, I am fortunate that my husband’s job keeps him stateside. There are no deployments but there are long hours, and he must take a call anytime the bat phone rings (what we lovingly call his navy phone). I do not know that I will be that fortunate if our children decide to follow their father, as well as numerous relatives in both my husband and my families who have made service to their country a time-honored tradition. When I watch our daughter march around like her father, I see a little girl who so badly wants to be her dad and I say a prayer for her future. I pray that if my children decide to serve their country, that they will be protected. Selfishly, I pray they get a job at a desk away from danger, but who am I to get in their way. I pray that whatever choices they make in their lives, they will be happy and fulfilled. I pray they will honor God and follow his will for them. I pray for their futures so often because I believe that God will guide their path, and by praying for them, I can model how they will one day pray for their own families. Our children are two years old and six months, so I have a long time until they choose what they want to be with their lives, but if today is any indication of the future, our mini chief will be a force to be reckoned with.
