Earlier this week, I wrote about my husband being in the hospital. To my great relief, he was released yesterday after finding out the headaches were from too much CSF. Why did that happen? I have no idea as of yet, but we are going to be seeing a neurologist who will hopefully provide some answers. Sometimes, God gives us wake-up calls in our lives. This was one for our family. I learned about priorities and choices. I can wake up and choose to be happy. I can choose to be angry that my husband forgot to take out trash on his way out the door. I can choose to dwell on the things that frustrate me, that in the grand scheme of things don’t matter. Or, I can remember that life is precious and we are not guaranteed time together. The lesson for my husband may have been a bit different. Honestly, I’ll have to ask him, but from all appearances, he’s learned that he needs to make himself a priority. His health is important, and we need him. God gave us an opportunity to learn this lesson in our lives because it was too late, and there were only regrets. Today, and forevermore, I choose to appreciate who my husband is as a person. I choose to respond in love instead of anger. I choose not to focus on what he didn’t do but rather what he does every day. I am grateful that I have the opportunity to change my way of thinking. These changes are not easy. There will be opportunities and tests along the way for me to fall back into old patterns of behavior (Satan loves to try to set us back), but with God’s help, I will combat the urge to complain, compare, and condemn my husband’s actions. Instead, I will remember to show appreciation for what he does for our family, our home, and our future. The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). With God’s help, I will not fall into his trap.
