As most of you know, I am a military wife. My husband is in the navy and recruits the next generation of sailors. Also known as we move random places. Currently, Michigan is our home, and I am happy with where we are. When I was considering a Bible verse for our life, I thought back to Ruth 1:16. The verse is “Where you go, I will go and where you stay, I will stay”. Ruth did not say this to her spouse, she said this to her mother-in-law. The Bible story of Ruth starts very sadly actually. Naomi is Ruth’s mother-in-law. Naomi’s husband moved the family to Moab where Ruth marries one of Naomi’s sons. Naomi loses both of her sons and husband back-to-back. Ruth and Orpah are sent by Naomi back to their families, but Ruth refuses to go. Ruth and Naomi head out to Judea and upon their arrival, Ruth goes to the field of Boaz. Boaz, unknown to Ruth, is a family member of Naomi’s. Ruth works in the field alongside other women because she knew that someone needed to provide for Naomi and herself. Boaz was impressed with Ruth’s care for her mother-in-law and ensured her protection in his fields. Naomi helped Ruth to gain the favor of Boaz in hopes of him marrying Ruth and caring for both women. Boaz does not have the first rights as kinsmen-redeemer; however, he was able to marry her due to the one with the first rights deciding not to. Why is this important? What does this have to do with my verse for our marriage? Well, the purpose is that I will go anywhere with my husband. I came back to his home with him (Michigan). I built a stronger relationship with God (Ruth developed a relationship with God rather than following Moabite religion). Ruth was blessed for stepping out in faith, despite not knowing where she would be led, and I believe that I will be blessed by God for following him where he wants me to be. My blessing is two children under two and the chaos of toddler life. I thank God every day for the sound of little feet hitting the floor and the sound of our son’s first laugh. I am grateful for the extra mess and noise that sometimes overwhelms me, but truly sustains me.
