Chief season ended this week, woot! The reason I am so excited about the season ending is that I struggle with knowing that I have to take on most of the tasks in our household. I became overwhelmed when I knew that my husband wasn’t going to be home for a certain number of days, whereas when I knew that he’s coming home at the end of the day I hype myself up. When he’s gone, everything goes into chaos. It’s not because I don’t have it handled. It’s because I don’t think I have it handled. I have a knack for psyching myself out of everything because I am convinced that I will fail. My confidence in my own ability is non-existent, and I always manage to think that I’m going to disappoint people. I especially feel this in my relationship with God. I feel like I fail him daily, but yet he doesn’t believe I’m a failure. He constantly gives me chances to redeem myself during the day. Because of that, I can give myself chances to turn the day around, my children will have the chance to turn their day around, and so will my husband. I’m learning to give myself the grace I extend to others because God designed one perfect person, and it was not me. God moves in ways that we don’t expect, provides lessons that we don’t always understand until we look back, and provides opportunities over and over until we get them right. For now, chief season is over, and I can breathe until the next because my chief will always be a chief, and I will have another opportunity next year to get it right.
