Our daughter is the type of person I always wanted to be. Only two and I am fairly certain nothing scares her. Earlier this week, we went to the local zoo, and they had camel rides, so we figured that she might enjoy it. At first, I was worried that she might be afraid because she had never seen a live camel before. I could not have been more incorrect. My father-in-law kindly rode the camel with her and the moment they placed her on Sassy (that was the 20-year-old camel’s name) my fearless girl attempted to lean and race the camel as if she was riding a horse in the Kentucky Derby. She was petting this beautiful creature and was truly thrilled to have the experience. Carefree is a good word to describe her, and that moment of happiness is one I will never forget. Often, I worry about our daughter’s lack of fear when she climbs too high or jumps too soon, holding my breath waiting for her to be hurt. The thing is, even if she is hurt, she brushes herself off and tries again. I admire that about her, much like her father, she is tenacious. I, on the other hand, am cautious and worry about failure. It’s truly amazing how much we learn from our children, even when we are teaching them. Because of our daughter, I want to try new things and not be afraid to fall. I want to live life, even if my passion may be silly to others, and I want to be unapologetically the person that God created me to be. So, I guess I can thank my fearless girl for being my inspiration to throw caution to the wind and be fearless.
